Reggae-dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku has criticised musicians who say they are not interested in winning awards, describing such remarks as insincere.

Speaking to Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, the ‘Wo’ hitmaker said every musician craves recognition for their work, and awards remain one of the highest forms of validation in the music industry.

“Any artiste who says they don’t do music for awards is lying. Awards bring joy and make fans proud. It’s a recognition of your hard work. When you win, it means the music you planted has borne fruit. If you don’t, then maybe what you sowed failed to be harvested,” he said.

Ras Kuuku added that awards distinguish artistes from their peers and push them to improve. “Those who say they don’t want awards are the same ones who love comparisons. Awards set you apart. If you’re an artiste, whether legendary or not, and you’ve never won a TGMA, then there’s something wrong,” he said.

He further revealed that many artistes secretly feel hurt when their efforts are overlooked, saying some even cry in private after losing out on awards.

The musician noted that he takes pride in the awards he has won, describing them as a symbol of fulfilment in his career.

Ras Kuuku urged the industry to value recognition platforms such as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), stressing that they motivate artistes to do better and strengthen their connection with fans.

Ras Kuuku has voiced his thoughts on the topic that has unexpectedly become the most talked about on social media: whether someone should have a PhD from Ghana or a Dutch passport.

“If I am asked to choose between the two, I’ll go for a Dutch passport because what will I be doing with a PhD? What’s even in that PhD and I want to know what that PhD involves and entails,” the musician asked Amansan Krakye.

According to the ‘Road of Evil’ crooner, having a Dutch passport will create several opportunities that will help him to get money in order to enjoy his life.

“We want money because when I wake up in the morning and give thanks and praise to God the next thing is about money and money.

“Apart from money that’s all and there’s nothing that I think about again because when you have money you can even prolong your life in this world.

“We need money so don’t let anyone tell us that a good name is better than riches but a good name and riches are both okay.

Explaining his stance further in an interview on Property FM, he said making money with a Dutch passport can help prolong your life in critical times.

He argued, “Imagine two people having kidney problems and they all go to the hospital and they’re all given two weeks to find money but one is unable to get the money, don’t you know the one who got the money for treatment has bought life to extend his stay on earth?”.

But why would the Dome- Samanpuom based Rasta Man use such a ‘weird’ title for his Album? Well, that’s the catch, it’s a ploy to buy your suspense as he delivers the full catalogue this Thursday, May 23rd via Mipromo, Ghana’s leading Music Distribution Company.

Holding 10 songs for the Album, Ras Kuuku employed CaskeysOnit and BozyBeat for the production efforts. Tracks 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9 were produced by BozyBeat while Tracks 2 and 5 were produced by CaskeysOnit.

Ras Kuuku has gradually inked his name as a huge icon for his Dome Natives. The event pulled thousands for patrons to Dome who had a good swell through the night.

Veteran Singjay and Music Icon, Samini, was a special highlight of the night who rocked the stage. Sweet and sassy Singer, Wendy Shay, pulled a big surprise on attendees with her ‘Survivor’ performance among other hit classics. Konkarah Jahvybz, Obibini, Kofi Jamar, Rashid Metal, among other musicians graced the stage.

Puom Fest is a brainchild of Ras Kuuku designed to be an annual event to celebrate himself and the community.

Ras Kuuku recently released an album titled “3, 3 & 1” and he used the concert to also market the album and create some extra visibility. He is a great performer, songwriter who has defended Reggae & Dancehall Culture in Ghana. He began in his early years as a Hiplife artiste before switching style into the Caribbean flavour. Nonetheless, he is a versatile artiste who does Afrobeats too perfectly; he recently veered into the Gospel terrain dropping a latest single titled “Nobody”.

Ras Kuuku is known to be a strong defender of consciousness and sane lifestyle as he promotes that through his music always, both on stage and in the studio while recording.

He is known for hit songs like “Father”, “Ye Taali Mu”, “Nwansina”, “Oonda”, “Wo”, just to name a few. He is a multiple time nominee and winner of BASS Awards and Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), respectively. He has won several other meaningful awards too.

Reggae/Dancehall musician, Ras Kuuku has said that his song “Gyedie” is bigger than any gospel song that came out in 2020.

In an interview on 3FM, Ras Kuuku who seems to be elevating his profile ahead of the upcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards said that under last year’s review, no gospel song can be compared to his “Gyedie” song.

He said; “How can you say that a gospel artiste shouldn’t be featured on a Reggae Song? When you listen to the song, it is more than their gospel songs … When you check my ‘Gyedie’ is way bigger than every gospel song that came out last year.

“My Song ‘Gyedie’ is bigger than every gospel song which came out last year. Whenever I come out with a song, people say Ras Kuuku’s vibes are clean.

However, Ras Kuuku has grabbed two nominations in the upcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
