Michelle Georgina Mone, Baroness Mone, OBE, is a Scottish businesswoman and life peer. Born on October 1971, she grew up in Glasgow’s East End, where she experienced the death of her younger brother and her father’s cancer.

She left school at 15 with no qualifications and pursued a modelling career. Mone worked at Labatt brewing and later set up her own business at 23.

She has since established several businesses, including MJM International Ltd and Ultimo, along with her husband Michael Mone. Mone became a Conservative life peer in 2015 and denied any involvement with her husband’s company, PPE Medpro, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In January 2022, the House of Lords launched investigations into Mone’s links to the contracts. Mone took a leave of absence from the House of Lords to clear her name amid the allegations.

In 2017, Mone and her partner Doug Barrowman unveiled a £250 million home complex in Dubai, which was on hold due to construction issues. In 2018, Mone and her partner Doug Barrowman introduced the cryptocurrency Equi, aiming to generate $US80 million for early-stage businesses. The company hired thousands of people to promote the coin, but only managed to raise £1,600.

The Sunday Times reported that the initiative had “flopped” in August 2018, exposing the total absence of oversight in the ICO market.
