Anthony Gobert

, also known as The Go Show was a renowned Australian superbike racing legend, passed away at the age of 48 due to a brief illness. Despite his numerous victories, Gobert's life was overshadowed by his addiction.

His mother, Sue, shared the news on Facebook, revealing his struggles with addiction. The racing community, recognizing his eight wins and 16 podium appearances, pays tribute to his remarkable story. Gobert's departure creates a void in motorcycle racing, but his legacy stands as a reminder of perseverance and the influence one can have in their chosen domain.

He was the youngest ever World Superbike race winner at the age of 19, breaking the record set by 18-year-old Yuichi Takeda at Sugo in 1996. Gobert began his career as a successful motocross racer, winning national classes in Australia before moving to road racing and winning the Australian domestic superbike championship.

In 1995, he became team leader for Muzzy Kawasaki and finished 4th overall. In 1996, he was 8th with 3 wins and 3 other podiums after missing much of the season due to injury. In 1998 and 1999, Gobert competed in the AMA Superbike Championship on a Vance & Hines Ducati, with some success, including a win as a WSBK wildcard at Laguna Seca.

In 2000, he returned to WSBK on a Bimota SB8R, winning a wet race at Phillip Island and generally doing better than expected. However, the team folded due to lack of financial backing. Bimota named the SB8K Gobert bike after him.

In 2001, Gobert returned to the AMA championship with Yamaha, spending two years racing the YZF R7 in the superbike class and the YZF R6 in the supersport class. He briefly dallianced with Ducati in 2003 and participated in the Supersport World Championship in 2006.

Gobert's career was marked by a stint in the 500cc World Championship in 1997, but was dismissed in mid-season after failing a drug test. He raced for MuZ Weber at the end of the 1999 season and had a 500cc one-off at Donington Park for Kenny Roberts' KR3 Modenas Team in late 2000.
