Mzbel has agreed with Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah, the PRO of Ghana National Gas Company, that not every famous person on social media needs to be labeled a star.
Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, real name Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, a notorious songstress, bemoaned how the label of fame has been lowered to the lowest pedigree in recent times.
“If anyone should be called a celebrity, they must have earned the title, but right now, the moment someone becomes famous on social media, we start calling that person a celebrity,” she said during an interview on Kastle FM in Cape Coast.
“Not every famous person is entitled to be labeled a celebrity, but that’s how they’re doing it here.
”
She recalled her early days in the music industry, emphasizing that before the rise of social media, it took a lot of hard work to be recognized as a star.
“But in our days when we started music, there was no social media, so for you to have a chance on radio or TV or be on the front page of a newspaper, your job must have gotten to a degree that made you deserve that privilege,” she said.
“So you have to deserve the tag of star, because right now it’s not like social media makes you famous immediately, and then you turn around and suggest all these people call themselves celebrities,” she said.
