“From Iwan To Stonebwoy, I taught Them All” – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall sensation Charles Ni Armah Mensah, best known by his stage name Shatta Wale, is claimed to have had a major impact on the lyrical styles of a number of the nation’s top performers.

Shatta Wale asserted at a live TikTok session on April 8, 2026, that he had a significant influence on how musicians like Stonebwoy, Iwan, and others performed their lyrics. He said that his freestyling style, which he used when he was first performing as Bandana, established a standard for Ghanaian dancehall artists.

He stated:

I taught Stonebwoy, Iwan, Jupitar, Epixode, and the others. For this reason, I constantly claim that when people compare Sarkodie to Jay-Z, they undervalue it needlessly.
