Habib Iddrisu under fire for derogatory ‘movie industry’ remark during John Dumelo’s vetting

Members and supporters of the entertainment sector have shown discontent with First Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu due to a comment he delivered regarding the creative arts sector during the assessment of Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo.
While Dumelo was being vetted on February 25, 2025, Habib Iddrisu advised the nominee to take his political career seriously, stressing that his responsibilities lay outside the film industry.
Iddrisu encouraged Dumelo to take his ministerial responsibilities with the highest level of seriousness.
“If you go to the ministry, try to assist your minister. The ministry is vast, and you should not try to jump the gun. Also, note that when you go to the ministry, you are no longer in the movie industry. Try to be as serious as you can so that you can support your minister in succeeding,” Iddrisu stated.
His remark has triggered responses on social platforms, with some internet users urging the Deputy Minority Whip to apologize to the film industry.
Some people are calling for an apology to the creative arts sector, while others are doubting Habib Iddrisu’s intelligence.
