“People Told My Family I’ve Gone Mad When I Started Making Comedy Videos” – Dr. Likee

Ebenezer Akwasi Antwi, popularly known as Dr. Likee, the man who transformed Ghana’s comedy scene, has talked about the strange journey that made him one of the country’s most well-known comedians and how his own community was worried about him.
Dr. Likee, who began his career as a Kumawood actor, stated on 3Music TV on April 16, 2026, that for a long time, filmmakers would only place him in gangster or small supporting roles, and despite his aspirations for greater possibilities, he had no option but to accept.
“I was constantly cast in supporting or gangster parts. I was constantly searching for an opportunity to take on a more significant job. However, the filmmakers kept offering me these parts, and since it was so hard to get on screen back then, I couldn’t refuse. I thus accepted any position that was offered to me and performed it well,” he remarked.
His decision to begin filming comedic sketches during the COVID-19 outbreak marked a turning point. He had a new low cut and chopped off his trademark dreadlocks.
His community, however, was concerned about his change.
“When I started making skits, some people told my family I had finally gone mad,” he recalled.
