Zambian athlete and Zambia National Service (ZNS) officer Rhoda Njobvu has become the focus of national attention not for her track performance, but for a viral video that has thrown her into the middle of a growing scandal.
The clip, which allegedly features an intimate moment between Njobvu and a woman identified as Lumeka Katundu, was leaked online without consent, sparking outrage, debate, and a flood of commentary across social media platforms.
Just days after another digital controversy led to the arrests of media figures Mwaka Halwiindi, David Kazadi, and Ruby Mazandu, this latest incident has reignited urgent conversations about digital ethics, privacy, and the scrutiny faced by public figures—especially women.
The leaked video has triggered widespread reaction, with many Zambians shocked not just by the content but by its exposure. While some have harshly criticized Njobvu, others have rushed to her defense, questioning why private, intimate content should determine a person’s public standing—especially when shared without consent.
Legal experts are now weighing in, warning that the circulation of such material could be a violation of Zambia’s Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act. The law clearly criminalizes the distribution of non-consensual intimate content, often referred to as revenge porn. Those found guilty can face serious legal consequences.
Human rights lawyer Mwandwe Chilala emphasized that the line between public interest and public intrusion must be respected. “Behind every viral video is a real person, with dignity, rights, and a reputation at stake,” she said.
So far, Njobvu has not made any public comment, and the ZNS has also remained silent, though sources suggest that internal reviews are underway.
