Wendy Shay

The criticism I faced at the start of My career motivated Me to work even harder – Wendy Shay

Posted on August 10, 2023May 15, 2025 by D.Klass GH

During her appearance on TV3’s New Day show, Wendy Shay candidly revealed that the initial lack of support at the commencement of her career did not deter her.

In fact, she harnessed this apparent setback as a wellspring of motivation to propel herself further and strive harder. Wendy Shay’s resolute determination serves as an inspiring testament to her unwavering commitment to her musical journey, showcasing her resilience and strength of character.

Wendy Shay’s outlook encapsulates a valuable lesson for aspiring artists and individuals facing obstacles in their pursuits. Rather than succumbing to discouragement, she chose to channel the absence of support into a potent driving force for her ambitions.

This positive perspective not only enabled her to overcome challenges but also empowered her to carve a distinct niche in the music industry. Wendy Shay’s story resonates as a powerful narrative of perseverance and tenacity, encouraging others to forge ahead with their dreams despite adversities.

Wendy discussed experiencing racial discrimination during her upbringing in Germany and was surprised to encounter similar treatment in her home country. However, she did not allow the negativity to affect her. Wendy attributed her resilience to the pain she felt after the tragic death of Ebony and her subsequent signing with Ruff Town Records.

She noted that the attention she received from the media, whether positive or negative, worked in her favor as a rising artiste seeking recognition.

“Living in a country where I thought racism was a thing, I raised my eyebrows when I got the same treatment from people.

“But also came at the right time for my career. Everything that I had achieved is very pivotal on the time I came into the industry.

“

“It is every artiste’s prayer to get attention and I got the attention whether good or bad, and given that opportunity, I didn’t play with it. When life throws lemon at you, you just make lemonades”, she stated.
