Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has reportedly been denied entry into Canada ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a development that could see him miss the Black Stars’ opening Group L match against Panama national football team on June 17.
Reports indicate that the decision is linked to ongoing legal proceedings involving the player in London. Partey has publicly denied the allegations against him and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The development has generated debate in Ghana, with Kofi Adams questioning the basis of the reported decision.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Adams described the situation as unfair, noting that the footballer remains free while the case is still before the courts.
“Even in the country where they claim he committed the act, for which reason he is in court, which he has denied, he is still living there, as a free citizen,” Adams said.
He further expressed surprise that Canada would reportedly take such action before any court ruling has been made.
“So one is therefore surprised that Canada, which is so far away, will now apply rules to the extent where somebody has merely been charged. This is absolutely wrong,” he added.
If confirmed, Partey’s absence would be a significant setback for the Ghana national football team as they prepare for a crucial start to their World Cup campaign.
The issue has added further uncertainty to Ghana’s preparations, with the Black Stars already dealing with a demanding Group L schedule against Panama, England and Croatia.
