English-American guitarist, singer, and songwriter Peter Frampton was born in Kent on April 22, 1950. At the age of seven, he developed an interest in music and attended Bromley Technical High School. He started studying classical music at age eight.

Rock groups from the late 1950s and early 1960s, including the Beatles, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Cliff Richard & the Shadows, Jimi Hendrix, and the Ventures, had an impact on Frampton. He first heard French gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt's albums thanks to his father.

By the time he was twelve, Frampton was performing with David Bowie and George and the Dragons in a group called the Little Ravens. He first joined the Preachers at the age of 14, and then Moon's Train when he was 14 years old. Frampton's parents were worried that their son might perform at late hours while attending school, so The Preachers' Alex Brown went to see his parents to reassure them that the band was made up of mature individuals.

In 1966, Frampton became a member of the Herd, scoring several British pop hits. He was named “The Face of 1968” by teen magazine Rave. In 1969, Frampton joined Steve Marriott of the Small Faces to form Humble Pie. He also did session recording with other artists, including George Harrison, Harry Nilsson, Jerry Lee Lewis, and John Entwistle's Whistle Rymes in 1972. Pete Drake introduced him to the “talk box” guitar effect.

After four studio albums and one live album with Humble Pie, Frampton left the band in 1971, just in time for Rockin' the Fillmore to rise the US charts. He remained with Dee Anthony (1926-2009), the same personal manager that Humble Pie had used. Later in his career, Frampton found significant success as a solo artist, releasing several albums, including his breakthrough album, Frampton Comes Alive! (1976), which earned 8× Platinum by the RIAA in the United States.
