Jordan Ayew has been confirmed for the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff match against Nigeria.
Initially, there were fears that Ayew would be unable to participate in the tie because of a coronavirus illness. However, he has tested negative and will be joining the squad in Kumasi.
Jordan Ayew tested negative for COVID and will join the squad in Kumasi later this week ahead of the Nigeria encounter, according to GFA communications director Henry Asante Twum.
Because of the positive test, Ayew was unable to play in Crystal Palace’s 4-0 FA Cup semi-final victory against Everton last weekend.
Ayew has 18 goals in 73 games with the Black Stars since making his debut in 2010.
The Black Stars landed in Kumasi on Tuesday afternoon to begin their preparations for the first leg, which will be held at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday, March 20, 2022.
The squad will conduct three training sessions at the Ashanti Regional capital before the match.
The second leg will take place in Abuja on Tuesday, March 29.
The tie’s winner will advance to the World Cup finals in Qatar later this year.
