CCTV footage showing how the world’s first openly Gay Imam was shot dead surfaces
Muhsin Hendricks, known as the world’s first openly gay imam, was tragically shot and killed near the city of Gqeberha in South Africa, according to police reports.
Before this tragic event, he was the leader of a mosque that provided a welcoming and safe space for gay Muslims and others who felt marginalized or excluded from mainstream society.
Surveillance footage that was released to the public shows what happened before his death.
On that Saturday, Imam Hendricks was in a car with another person when another vehicle suddenly pulled up in front of them.
This vehicle stopped, blocking their path and preventing them from escaping, which led to the tragic shooting.
“Two unknown suspects with covered faces got out of the vehicle and started firing multiple shots at the vehicle,” the Eastern Cape force said in a statement.
“Thereafter they fled the scene, and the driver noticed that Hendricks, who was seated at the back of the vehicle was shot and killed.
”
