Accra High Court clears way for Daddy Lumba’s funeral on December 13

The Accra High Court has confirmed that Daddy Lumba’s funeral will proceed as scheduled on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
The late highlife legend, who passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60, has been at the centre of a complex family dispute over who has the authority to lead and fund his funeral arrangements.
The disagreement had previously prompted legal intervention to halt the burial.
Initially, the court granted an injunction restraining the family head, Kofi Owusu, from organising the funeral and prohibiting Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the musician’s body.
Members of Lumba’s maternal family had filed the application, citing concerns about the conduct of the funeral preparations.
However, the court later recalled all lawyers and issued a fresh directive. It required the applicants to deposit GH¢2 million by 2 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, to cover potential costs arising from the delay.
The judge noted that, while the applicants’ concerns were valid, allowing the injunction to continue without financial security could unfairly burden the respondents.
After the applicants failed to meet the deadline, the court lifted the injunction, allowing funeral preparations to continue and clearing the way for the burial on December 13.
