Ghanaian broadcaster and voice-over artist Adwoa Imelda has sparked discussion after advising married women to consider having a financially stable man they can rely on outside their marriages.
Imelda made the comments during her appearance on JoyPrime’s night show, Talk Your Shh, while discussing the challenges some women face in marriage.
According to her, women should prepare themselves for unexpected situations, including divorce, and have someone they can depend on if their marriages break down.
She argued that marriage does not always last forever and women should avoid finding themselves without support when circumstances change.
“The way men are, I will advise that when a woman gets married, she should have a standby man so that she can lean her shoulder on and don’t lose since divorce can happen at any time,” she said.
Imelda’s comments have sparked debate about marriage, financial security and whether married women should have a backup partner.
While some may view her advice as controversial, the broadcaster maintains that women should protect their interests and ensure they have support in difficult situations.
