Connection Over Talent? – Sista Afia Blasts TGMA

Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has opened up about her disappointment over not winning a major award despite spending nearly a decade in the music industry and releasing several hit songs.

Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM, the musician jokingly suggested that dating a member of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards board might help her secure her first award.

“Maybe I have to date someone on the TGMA board to win my first award, but I will not do that,” she said.

Sista Afia explained that although she is yet to win a TGMA award, she remains committed to her music career and has not lost hope.

“I have not given up because I do not have a TGMA award yet,” she stated.

The singer revealed that she previously spoke publicly about her frustrations after feeling overlooked despite releasing successful songs.

“I came out to pour out my frustrations because I felt there was sabotage against me,” she disclosed.

According to Sista Afia, songs such as Weather and Corner Corner received nominations, but several of her later hit songs failed to earn recognition from the awards scheme.

“I later made other hit songs which took just two weeks to go viral, but I did not get nominations for them,” she lamented.

She added that the experience led her to believe there were issues with the selection process.

“That was where I knew there was sabotage,” she claimed.

The musician further disclosed that she once submitted a song for consideration in multiple categories but did not receive a single nomination.

“I submitted the song for about eight categories, but nothing came out of it,” she stated.

According to her, the disappointment pushed her to openly criticise the award scheme because she felt deeply hurt by the outcome.

“That was when I came out to tell TGMA my mind because I was really pained,” she added.

Sista Afia specifically pointed to her collaboration with Kwame Eugene on the song “Asuoden,” insisting the track deserved recognition.

“My song ‘Asuoden’ with Kwame Eugene should have at least won the Best Collaboration award,” she argued.

She described the song as one of the biggest records of her career.

“Because it was one of my greatest songs,” she said.
