Ghanaian rapper Kojo Cue has thrown his support behind fellow musician Fameye, agreeing with his emotional reaction to being nominated for Songwriter of the Year.
Speaking on Angel FM, Kumasi, Kojo Cue acknowledged Fameye’s talent and justified his sentiments, saying, “I agree with Fameye about crying over being nominated as Songwriter of the Year because he is extremely good and deserves it too.”
Beyond the awards conversation, Kojo Cue also paid tribute to Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba, emphasising his lasting influence:“the icon can never die; Charles Kojo Fosu is rather dead, but Daddy Lumba lives forever.”
He revealed his personal connection to the legend’s identity, noting: “I call myself Young Daddy Lumba.”
Addressing growing competition for the title, he expressed satisfaction with the awareness he helped create. He said, “I do not mind if people are fighting for the title because when I picked it, no one had even thought of it.. My goal was to let everyone know there was an artiste called Daddy Lumba.”
He added that he now considers that mission accomplished.
“Now that lots of people know and are even fighting for the name, I think I am done with the work.”
Kojo Cue also disclosed that although he once met Daddy Lumba, he intentionally kept his distance.
“I met Daddy Lumba, but I never got close to him because I preferred to admire him from afar. I did not want to get close and see some of his shortcomings that might discourage me.” He noted.
Touching on the often-discussed lifestyle of the highlife legend, Kojo Cue drew parallels with his own family background.
“With the polygamous part of Daddy Lumba, my grandfather had about seven wives and 49 children, but we still had peace at home.” Suggesting that such upbringing could shape one’s worldview.
“Maybe Daddy Lumba grew up in such a family and would see polygamy as normal.”
