No one can claim the best rapper title – Kojo Cue

Ghanaian rapper Kojo Cue, born Linford Kennedy Amankwaa, has argued that no artiste can definitively claim the title of the best rapper, emphasising the artistic depth and subjectivity of rap music.
Speaking on Angel FM, Kumasi, he described rap as a complex and elevated art form.
“By the definition of rap and the elements of arts, no one can name themselves the best rapper. Rap is the highest level of poetry, using all the elements of arts to make it catchy and nice.”
He also revealed how much winning a major songwriting award would mean to him.
“Winning Songwriter of the Year at the TGMA will be the most emotional moment in my entire career.” He disclosed.
Reflecting on his artistic evolution, Kojo Cue admitted that he no longer connects with his earlier works.
“I don’t enjoy most of my old songs because of growth; I don’t listen to anything before 2015, before ‘The Shining’, he revealed.
He explained that those earlier works were part of his development phase.
“Those were my learning stages; we grow and get better.”
On influence within the industry, he acknowledged the dominance of dancehall star Shatta Wale.
“No amount of awards I win can make me more influential than Shatta Wale.” He compared and contrasted.
However, he expressed hope that the artiste would re-engage with award schemes.
“It will only be nice if he rejoins the award scheme.”
Kojo Cue also made a creative suggestion to the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), advocating for recognition of rap legends.
“I wish TGMA could build a whole performance set for we the new school rappers, to eulogise Okyeame Kwame.” He advocated.
