The E-levy has finally been authorized by Parliament, according to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
This was stated by Mr. Akufo-Addo in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) for 2022, which he gave in Parliament on March 30.
After the minority stormed out of Parliament on Tuesday, March 29, the E-levy was authorized. The bill was rejected by the minority because it was seen as harsh.
“Mr. Speaker, despite the prolonged and often fractious character of proceedings, I am pleased that the House has, at long last, found it able to pass the e-levy,” President Akufo-Addo said in his address. I think the levy will make a substantial contribution to revenue mobilization and economic management, and I appreciate the members of the House for their support in making this happen.
The path to recovery will be difficult and lengthy, Mr.
Speaker, but we’ve gotten off to a strong start by admitting that we’re in a tough spot and making the tough decisions that will bring us out.
