“I’ve Never Been Asked ‘Sex For A Movie Role’ In My Entire Life” – Maame Serwaa
Throughout her career, Kumawood actress Clara Benson, better known by her stage name Maame Serwaa, has disclosed that no producer has ever asked for sex in return for a film role.
In an interview with Onua FM on March 6, 2025, the actress revealed her intentions to launch her own production business.
“Even though I’m an actor and have more expertise in the field, I chose to gain additional experience and came up with the concept of becoming a producer.
I want to see firsthand how the producers and directors carry out their duties.
“
“During my time in school, I made the decision to look for more. Maame Serwaa stated, “I met with my management after school and told them I want to start my own production and also audition for young talents.”
The idea of “sex for roles,” according to Maame Serwaa, has deterred people from realizing their potential as actors.
Because of what they have heard, many in Ghana are afraid to bring their gifts to the table. People frequently inquire as to whether or not they have heard producers demand sex in exchange for roles. As a result, some parents are afraid to let their kids start behaving.
“The people and the producers I’ve worked with are all big producers, and they have never and will never ask for sex for you to get a role. I don’t know what’s going on or the producers who have come into the scene that have made things change,” she said.
She said she’s committed to grooming talents to attain higher levels and do away with the perception about ‘sex for roles.’.
“This is the time we need to prove to people that whatever they are thinking is not like that. If you have the talent, then why not? We can use that talent for you to be like the stars we see on the screen,” she added.
