Kidi Urges Government to Take Immediate Action Against Galamsey

Ghanaian musician Kidi has joined the growing number of voices calling for an end to illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM, Kidi admitted that he may not fully understand the political and technical issues behind the fight against galamsey.
However, he stressed that the visible effects of the practice are alarming.
He said illegal mining is destroying the nation’s water bodies, leaving many communities without clean drinking water.
“We are concerned about galamsey.
I don’t know the technicalities and the politics behind it,” he said.
“All I know is that it is destroying water. People are struggling to get water to drink, so whoever needs to act should do so. It has been talked about many times, but it keeps continuing and ruining lives. Whatever needs to be done should be done quickly.”
