My Religious Family Opposed My Secular Music Career — Sista Afia

Ghanaian musician Sista Afia has revealed that her family never supported her decision to pursue secular music.
Speaking in an interview on Kumasi based Angel FM, the singer explained that she comes from a deeply religious family, which made her career choice difficult for some relatives to accept.
According to Sista Afia, her connection to renowned preacher Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams also contributed to the disappointment many family members felt about her entering secular music.
“I’m part of the Duncan Williams family, so they were disappointed that I became a secular artist,” she said.
Despite the concerns from family members, Sista Afia disclosed that Archbishop Duncan-Williams himself has never personally complained to her about her music career.
“Yet Archbishop Duncan Williams has never complained about my music,” she added.
The singer noted that although she respected her family’s views, she decided to stay committed to her path, a decision she believes has contributed to her success in the Ghana music industry.
