People cut trees, then complain about heat – Worlasi

Ghanaian musician and environmental advocate Worlasi has expressed concern about the rapid loss of trees across Ghana, warning that it is making communities hotter, more stressful, and less socially connected.

Speaking about his “50 Shades of Green” initiative in an interview with Kafui Dey, Worlasi reflected on how much his childhood environment has changed over the years.

“There’s no place to sit anymore. The trees are gone,” he said.

According to the musician, many communities have replaced green spaces with concrete structures, leading to higher temperatures and fewer outdoor areas where people can relax and interact.

Worlasi believes the impact of deforestation extends beyond environmental concerns and affects the well-being of residents.

“If we have more trees, our stress levels will come down,” he stated.

He argued that countries and communities that prioritize planting and preserving trees often enjoy healthier, calmer environments and an improved quality of life.

The musician also revealed that several trees planted through his “50 Shades of Green” project did not survive because some communities struggled to maintain them consistently.

Worlasi continues to advocate for environmental conservation and is encouraging Ghanaians to take active steps to protect and restore green spaces in their communities.

“People have their own lives and struggles. You can’t blame them,” he said.

Despite the setbacks, Worlasi remains committed to expanding the project to more communities in the future.
