Asamoah Gyan calls for patience following Black Stars’ uninspiring start under Hughton

Asamoah Gyan, a former Black Stars captain, has urged Ghanaians to be patient after the team’s lackluster performance in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola on Thursday.

According to Gyan, the Black Stars had the most of possession but struggled to make an impact in their first game under new coach Chris Hughton.

Gyan noted that while the team’s performance was deplorable, a number of factors, including the weather, may have contributed to their lack of urgency and ambition on the field.

But, he emphasized that securing a victory was more crucial, which the club was able to do due to a late goal from Antoine Semenyo.

“The players were under pressure, the weather condition was a bit hot for them so you could see they were struggling. The movement was a bit slow but the most important thing is getting the victory.

“It’s a gradual process, we have a new coach who is building a team, for me, I think the three points are the most important although we didn’t have the best of game in football, a win is the most important thing.

“Let’s support and be patient with the team,” said the former Sunderland man on Akoma FM.

As the team works to qualify for the 2019 AFCON in Ivory Coast, Ghana will aim for a stronger performance when they head to Luanda for the return leg on Monday.

The Black Stars are now in first place in Group E with seven points, putting them in a strong position to advance if they win their following game.
