I Will Choose Partey Over My Prime Self – Michael Essien

Michael Essien, the former Ghanaian international, has finally spoken his opinion on the argument between Thomas Partey of Arsenal and himself.
The retiring midfield master and the current Gunners regista have been the subject of constant debates and comparisons on who was the superior midfield player in their time.
Partey has outperformed the former Chelsea player at his best, according to some, while others, like former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston, think Essien is the stronger midfield player overall.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with famous sports journalist Gary Al-Smith on SportyFM, Essien was taken aback when Gary asked him who he would want to see on his squad, Partey or himself.
he said:
I don’t know how to answer this, but I just love playing football, and I was privileged and lucky enough to do it the way I did it. But I will never put myself [ahead] because we are two different generations, so of course I will let you put Partey.
He’s a guy that I love very much. I talk to him every now and then; we’re in contact with each other, and he’s a brilliant footballer…
a brilliant midfielder, so, of course, I will stand by for him to pick my place.
