Kevin Prince Boateng Recounts How He Was Kicked Out Of The Black Stars And Schalke 04 In The Same Season

Former Ghanaian international Kevin-Prince Boateng has clarified the events leading up to his ejection from the Black Stars camp at the 2014 World Cup.

On the day of Ghana’s last group match against Portugal, Boateng and Sulley Muntari recalled how they were both dismissed from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following a contentious argument with officials.

Boateng said that he had criticized GFA authorities for what he saw to be their mistreatment of the players in an interview with Vibe with Five.

The Ghana FA’s management committee took issue with this blunt criticism.

Boateng said, “I was expelled from Schalke and the national team in the same season.” We had a meeting, and I criticized them, and I said, ‘They can’t treat us like that’ because we know how much they make, and they should invest in the organization [and] give the players the money they deserve.”

He recounted, “They didn’t like that, and they kicked me out,” adding that on the day of the important match against Portugal, he found a note under his door at six in the morning. The letter formally terminated his participation in the event and asked him to leave the team hotel and hand in his cards within 15 minutes.

Boateng complains that his teammates were silent despite his efforts to further the team’s interests, saying, “No one [talked]. Not for me; I wasn’t battling. For the squad, I was battling. The worst moment was when I encountered them as I was leaving with my stuff. I told Muntari that the actual squad would announce that “we are all not playing.”
