The Ghana national football team have suffered a major setback ahead of their remaining 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L matches after goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi was ruled out through injury.
The 29-year-old shot-stopper sustained a groin injury during Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama national football team in the team’s opening game of the tournament.
Ati-Zigi picked up the injury in the first half after colliding with a Panama attacker while attempting to make a save. Although he received treatment and continued playing for a short period, he was eventually replaced at halftime by Benjamin Asare.
Subsequent medical examinations confirmed the severity of the injury, with officials indicating that the goalkeeper is expected to be sidelined for approximately three weeks.
His absence is a significant blow to the Black Stars, given his experience and importance to the team. Benjamin Asare is now expected to step up and fill the void as Ghana prepares for its remaining group-stage fixtures.
