Bawumia Bodyguard Mohammed Zakou Allegedly Arrested by NIB Over False Death Report About Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang

Mohammed Amadou Zakou, a reported bodyguard of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has allegedly been arrested by Ghana’s National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for spreading false information about current Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on social media.
Zakou was reportedly apprehended on Saturday, April 12, 2025, following a controversial Facebook post he made on April 4, in which he falsely claimed Vice President Jane Naana had died after undergoing medical treatment abroad on March 28.
The post included a photo of the Vice President alongside the caption:
“Rest Well Your Excellency” followed by a series of crying emojis, suggesting national mourning and falsely confirming her death.
The misleading post quickly went viral, amassing over 139 likes, 1,000+ comments, and 137 shares, sparking public confusion and concern about the well-being of the Vice President.
Many Ghanaians expressed shock, with some questioning the credibility of the claim due to the lack of confirmation from official sources.
The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has not officially confirmed Mohammed Zakou’s arrest as of the time of this report,
The security service have not issued a public statement to detail the charges or legal actions being taken against him.
It remains unclear whether the post violated any cyber laws or national security protocols.
