National Service Personnels To Have Short Military Training – Pres. Mahama Announces
President John Dramani Mahama has stated that national service members would begin receiving military-style training in an attempt to inculcate discipline and physical fitness in young people.
He also described intentions to address young unemployment and corruption within the National Service Scheme in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA), which he gave on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
“Short military training will be incorporated into our national service program.
Young people will develop a feeling of discipline and fitness as a result,” he stated.
After the Rational Service Authority Act 2024 (Act 1119) was passed, the program is a component of larger national service reforms.
The president has directed the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment to present a legislative instrument to Parliament to formalize these changes.
