Ottomi Patrick Akhere, commonly known as Oduma Essan, a Nigerian musician, has sued Ghanaian highlife musician Kuami Eugene for allegedly stealing his song.

Kuami Eugene is noted for sampling other people’s old tunes for his own music. He has a few tracks and acapellas that he sampled from other artists’ songs. He has claimed that sampling other people’s music is the source of inspiration for him, but it looks that he has been caught in the net this time.

For copying his music, the Nigerian singer has taken Kuami Eugene to the Accra High Court. Kuami Eugene allegedly copied the concept and portions of Ottomi Patrick’s hit “Show Body,” according to Patrick. Patrick stated that his song “Show Body” was released in July 2020, followed by a video in September 2020.

Patrick Ottomi stated that he invested a significant amount of time and money in the development and promotion of his song in both Ghana and Nigeria.

Kuami Eugene’s song, he claims, is a copy or replication of his own, emphasizing the songs’ similarities. Kuame Eugene, he alleges, “plagiarized” the title, as well as his words and visual picture. However, he is seeking GHc 120,000 in damages for the expense of his video production, sound engineering, mixing, and song marketing.
