William Asa Hutchinson II, an American politician and businessman, was born in Bentonville, Arkansas on December 3, 1950.
He received his J.D. from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1975, after graduating from Bob Jones University in South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1972. During his 21 years of legal practice in Fort Smith, he conducted more than 100 jury trials.
President Ronald Reagan appointed Hutchinson as United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas in 1982. At the age of 31, Hutchinson was the country's youngest U.S. Attorney.
After successfully prosecuting James Ellison's polygamist white nationalist group The Covenant, The Sword, and The Arm of the Lord (CSA), he received widespread media attention.

Hutchinson, a lawyer, businessman, and politician from the United States, presided as Arkansas' 46th governor from 2015 until 2023.
He was a Republican and served as the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, which includes Fort Smith, from 1982 to 1985, as well as the 3rd congressional district of Arkansas from 1997 to 2001, as well as the first undersecretary for border and transportation security at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2003 to 2005.
Hutchinson, a Republican, ran against outgoing Arkansas Attorney General Michael Beebe in the 2006 governor's race.
In 2014, Hutchinson was the Republican candidate for governor, defeating Democratic candidate Mike Ross.
He was re-elected in 2018 with more than two-thirds of the vote. Due to term limits, he was unable to run for reelection in 2022, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders took his place.
Hutchinson was the vice chair of the National Governors Association from 2020 to 2021. He took over as the group's chairperson for 2021-2022 from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Hutchinson, a Republican, is running for President of the United States in 2024.
