Edem explains why he missed the 2026 TGMAs

Ghanaian rapper Edem has rejected suggestions that some top musicians intentionally stay away from the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Prime Time, Edem explained the reason behind his absence from this year’s awards ceremony.

According to the rapper, he was fully occupied with preparations for his upcoming event, Edem X, which also serves as his album launch and birthday celebration.

“We spent the entire day working with the team,” he shared. “At one point, we had to leave a meeting just to get food because we had not eaten throughout the day.”

Despite missing the ceremony, Edem made it clear that he still holds the TGMAs in high regard.

“I don’t believe we should ignore something that belongs to us,” he stated.

He further stressed that the awards scheme remains significant to every Ghanaian artiste, no matter their level in the industry.

“It forms part of an artiste’s credentials,” he explained. “Even if there are disagreements with organisers, the platform itself deserves respect.”

Edem also referenced major international award schemes as examples of why established musicians should continue supporting local music award events.

“I’ve seen big names at the Grammys. Beyoncé still attends the Grammys,” he stated.

According to him, major artistes should also help strengthen the awards scheme by showing up consistently.

“If we want to be respected as big names, then we should also respect the platforms that helped build us,” he added.
