Music producer Fred Kyei-Mensah has urged people to make healthcare a priority when planning their household finances, warning that the cost of medical care can become difficult to manage, especially as people grow older.
Kyei-Mensah made the call while giving an update on his health. He revealed that he had visited a clinic for treatment and undergone a series of laboratory tests.
“I am not afraid to die when the time comes, whether prepared or not. However, I am afraid of being alive and not able to get the financial muscle to care for my needs, especially my health,” he said.
Reflecting on his recent health challenges, Kyei-Mensah said the experience had reminded him of some of the limitations that come with ageing.
“The last couple of days has shown me ‘Atiwa’ small concerning my health. Sunsum p3 na honam no y3 mmr3,” he wrote.
He encouraged people to include healthcare expenses in their domestic budgets and to pay closer attention to their family health history.
“Kindly add health issues to your domestic budget and manage your lifestyle well, especially when you have issues with hemoglobin-laden illness in your system if you know your family health history,” he said.
Kyei-Mensah mentioned diabetes, high blood pressure, hepatitis, ulcers, malaria and HIV/AIDS among some of the health conditions people may have to deal with.
He also noted that while local health insurance may cover certain medicines, patients can still face additional expenses when doctors prescribe treatments or medications outside the scope of their insurance coverage.
“That is where the cash matter arises,” he said.
Sharing a photo from the clinic, Kyei-Mensah reassured his supporters that he expected to recover.
“I will be fine. Thanks for your support and encouragement,” he said.
