“I Have Intentions To Retire From Ghana Music Awards” – Joe Mettle

The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ artist of the year, Joseph Oscar Nii Armah Mettle, better known as Joe Mettle, has hinted at ditching the awards scheme in no time.
The numerous award-winning musician claims that he made this choice because he thinks nominated has increased expectations, which he occasionally finds difficult to fulfill because of his busy schedule.
The singer of the hit song “My Everything,” who was interviewed on TV3’s New Day on Friday, May 16, 2025, stated that he had been considering withdrawing his nomination for a while.
“I think I do (have intentions to retire from the awards). I think for the past 3 or 4 years, I have wanted to take a seat back from the awards.
And it is not because I think I have outgrown the awards; no, it is not that,” he clarified.
He further shared that the demands placed on nominees often clash with his busy schedule, making it difficult to give the awards process the full attention it requires.
“There are things that the award requires that sometimes you are not able to do. Because once you are nominated, you need to push it, and sometimes there is a lot happening.
Sometimes, it gets to a point where there is so much more going on around you that you are not able to commit to the requirement,” he said.
