Gospel musician Grace Ashly has expressed disappointment over the dismissal of former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, saying she believes he deserved additional support rather than being relieved of his duties.
Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, the singer said she was deeply saddened by the Ghana Football Association’s decision to part ways with the coach.
“I was in Stuttgart when the issue happened and I felt so sad, honestly. Even if they were going to sack him, that should have happened after our match with Austria, not Germany,” she said.
According to Grace Ashly, she had hoped the football authorities would strengthen Otto Addo’s technical team instead of replacing him entirely.
“I was expecting that if there should have been something, which I don’t know, they should have called Coach Addo and told him they wanted to add someone to him so that the two of them could handle the team. In my opinion, that is how it was supposed to be,” she stated.
Although she admitted that football authorities may have acted in what they believed was the best interest of the national team, Grace Ashly maintained that she was unhappy with the decision.
“I wasn’t happy anyway, yet it happens,” she added.
The gospel musician had previously appealed to football authorities not to dismiss Otto Addo, urging them to provide him with technical assistance rather than remove him from the role.
Otto Addo was relieved of his duties in March 2026 following a string of disappointing results, including defeats to Austria and Germany in international friendlies. The Ghana Football Association later appointed Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as the new Black Stars head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
A long-time supporter of the national team, Grace Ashly has been composing and performing songs for the Black Stars since 2006 and says she remains hopeful the team will progress beyond the group stage and enjoy a successful World Cup campaign.
