Ghanaian musician Showboy has reacted to Ghana’s newly approved anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, suggesting that the law could have implications for Ghanaians living overseas.
In a post shared on X, formerly Twitter, the artiste argued that the legislation may produce both positive and negative outcomes.
“The anti gay bill they passed will help a lot of Ghanaians in America,” he wrote.
According to ShowBezzy, some individuals could potentially reference the law in immigration and asylum proceedings abroad, particularly in countries such as the United States.
He claimed that people who fear arrest or prosecution upon returning to Ghana could use the legislation as part of an asylum application or legal defense against deportation.
The musician further noted that the law carries both “positive and negative effect,” adding that some Ghanaians living outside the country may benefit from its existence.
The legislation reportedly maintains penalties for same-sex sexual acts and introduces additional sanctions related to the funding, sponsorship, and promotion of LGBTQ+ activities. It also includes provisions requiring the reporting of certain prohibited activities to authorities.
ShowBezzy’s comments have sparked discussion online, with social media users debating the possible local and international implications of the legislation.
