Asamoah Gyan reacts to Dede Ayew’s penalty miss against Uruguay (Video)

Asamoah Gyan, a former Ghanaian striker, commented on Andre Dede Ayew’s terrible penalty miss in Ghana’s last group match against Uruguay.

The Black Stars were hoped to advance to the round of 16, but their hopes were dashed when rival Ghana was eliminated from the World Cup after losing 2-0 to Uruguay.

In the first half of the game, Ghana was given a penalty kick for a challenge by goalkeeper Sergio Rochet on forward Mohammed Kudus. Ayew moved to take the penalty, but Rochet dived to his left to make the save.

“I can imagine what Dede Ayew is going through right now because I’ve been there before,” said Gyan on Super Sport.

“After missing the penalty you could see he was psychologically broken down.

“It’s part of the game but the players will console him. It won’t be easy to get over it”

Asamoah Gyan’s penalty miss against the same opponent at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa is brought up again by the occurrence.

Luis Suarez received a straight red card during the tournament’s quarterfinal for purposefully blocking Dominic Adiyiah’s header that was headed for the goal with his hands.

At 1-1, Ghana was given a penalty attempt to break the tie, but Asamoah Gyan’s attempt hit the crossbar, and Uruguay went on to win the game 4-2 on penalties to advance to the semifinals against the Netherlands.

History repeated itself after Ghana and Uruguay reunited in the group stages on Friday, Dec 2, 2022, becoming the only team in the history of the FIFA World Cup to fail to convert two penalties against the same opponent.

Despite beating Ghana 2-0, Uruguay were knocked out of the World Cup on goals scored after South Korea’s dramatic win against Portugal in the final Group H matches.
