GFA fines Nations FC’s Emmanuel Annor GHS 500 for ‘I belong to Jesus’ goal celebration

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) fined Emmanuel Annor, a player for Nations FC, GHS 500 for misbehavior during a Ghana Premier League game against Asante Kotoko.
Following Annor’s goal celebration, during which he took off his jersey to show an undergarment bearing the religious inscription “I belong to Jesus,” disciplinary action was taken.
According to a statement issued by the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee on May 13, 2025, the player violated league rules that forbid displaying political or religious slogans during games.
The GFA underlined that these behaviors are regarded as transgressions of player conduct regulations and interfere with the desired impartiality on the pitch.
“He has also been strongly warned that any further misconduct will result in severe sanctions,” the statement added.
While the financial penalty is relatively minimal, the GFA’s warning suggests that future infractions could result in suspensions or harsher disciplinary actions.
