Why I don’t have friends – Wendy Shay opens up

Wendy Shay has opened up about the emotional impact of losing her father at a very young age and how the experience shaped her personality and independence.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, monitored by MyNewsGh, the singer revealed that her father passed away when she was only two years old. According to her, she has no memories of him but believes his absence affected several aspects of her emotional life.

“I never really experienced that emotional father love,” she shared.

The award-winning musician explained that growing up without a father figure made it difficult for her to depend on others emotionally, especially men. She noted that she had to teach herself how to accept help from people.

“I had to learn how to allow myself to be helped,” she stated.

Wendy Shay also credited the strong women around her for shaping her resilient mindset and determination in the music industry. However, she admitted that she naturally prefers solitude and keeps a very small circle.

“Till now, I don’t really have friends,” she revealed.

According to the singer, she has always been comfortable spending time alone and sees herself as someone driven more by purpose than social relationships.

“I see myself as an eagle and eagles fly alone,” she said.

She added that while she enjoys having fun, she has become more intentional about the people she allows into her personal life.

Wendy Shay also shared memories of her childhood in Ghana before relocating to Germany.

She said she lived with her aunt and uncle alongside her cousins while her mother worked abroad.

According to the musician, that period taught her togetherness and family bonding.

She described herself as naturally introverted despite her energetic public image.

“I like my own company,” she said. “I can stay indoors for a week.”

The singer also spoke about growing up as the first child among her siblings and how she prefers leading by example instead of forcing authority on others.
