“I’m The First Person To Hit 60 Years In Our Family, My Parent Even Couldn’t” – Veteran Nigerian Actor (Video)

Richard Mofe-Damijo, a veteran Nollywood actor, claims to have broken the yoke of death in his family since none of his parents lived to past 60 years old.

The actor, who has been in the business for over four decades, breaks down in tears as he chats with Nigerian journalist Chide Jideonwu on the eve of his own birthday, which falls on July 7.

“None of my parents lived to be 60,” he says, “so life is just getting begun for me.”

“There's been a shadow of death hovering over my life for the last year, and that's what I've been coping with this year. It was a big event for me when I turned 59, a major deal for me! My mother died at the age of 59, and my father at the age of 57/58.”

“Can I shatter it?” I wondered. When people see me lose weight, they automatically assume it's for my health. I don't want to be like my parents, who were both diabetes and hypertensive.

I don't want to be diabetic or hypertensive; instead, I want to live a healthy lifestyle. At the very least, give me a fighting shot to break the cycle. Yes, I'm a Christian now, so that yoke has been broken, but I still have to also help myself.

“Becoming 60 is much more significant for me, so when July arrives, I will be 60. I'll genuinely become a new man because that's when I'll write a bucket list, just like the Bible says old things have passed away. So all these things you believe I've accomplished or done are nothing to me, like zero.”
