“I Was Playing Hide And Seek With My Landlord Because I Couldn’t Afford GHc15 Rent” – Ohemaa Mercy Reveals

Ohemaa Mercy, the popular Ghanaian gospel singer, has revealed how she used to play hide and seek with her landlord because he couldn’t pay her GH15 rent.

She claims to have left the house as early as 4 a.m. when everyone was still in bed and returned late at night when everyone, particularly the landlord, was sound asleep.

In an interview with Afia Amankwa Tamkloe on Adom TV, Ohemaa Mercy stated that her days as a pupil-teacher at St. Peters Anglican School in Koforidua in the Eastern Region were difficult.

“I was heartbroken because I didn’t know how I was going to pay my rent. Because I didn’t have the money, I left the home as early as 4:00 a.m. and returned extremely late when there was no one in sight,” says the man.

As a teacher, Ohemaa Mercy said she had to deal with a lot of shame. It came to a point when she had to flee her debtor, who had stormed the school in search of her money.

“At that time, I was going through a lot of difficulties, and I remember one day when a blender salesman came into the classroom to embarrass me about a debt I owed, and I had to run to the back of the building and cry bitterly.

“As a third-born, I didn’t want to go through the trials that my elder siblings had gone through, and I began to doubt God.”

Ohemaa Mercy remarked that despite her hustling, she had unwavering trust in God Almighty’s strength and that even if circumstances have changed, she looks back with thankfulness.

“In my attempt to avoid the landlord that morning, I awoke at my customary 4:00 a.m. So I came across this man who introduced himself as a preacher and blessed me with a bundle of GH20 notes while I was on my way.”
