Captain of the boat that capsized and drowned Junior Pope tells his story
At last, the captain of the vessel that submerged Junior Pope and several other crew members has spoken and provided a detailed description of the events that transpired.
He added that TC Okafor was ringing a bell as they were crossing the river, and he informed him that it was the village's market day and that ringing a bell on the river on that day was frowned upon, so they would have to make some sacrifices. He claimed they assured him they could not be harmed because they were God's offspring.
He refuted rumors that Junior Pope was filming films as the boat overturned as well.
When he was asked why he didn't provide those on board with life jackets, he said they told him they don't have money to pay for that.
He said he was shocked and told them the producer is supposed to make provision for life jackets for them but the producer said the money on the them is for everything in the script.
Those interviewing him asked how he survived the accident and he said he does not know how the boat capsized because he was not even over speeding but he will not take the blame for being the cause of the incident.
