Hypocrisy Is Killing Ghana Politics – Socrate Sarfo
Socrate Sarfo Questions Political Positions on Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill

Ghanaian filmmaker and entertainment personality Socrate Sarfo has raised concerns about what he describes as growing hypocrisy in Ghana’s political landscape, particularly regarding the debate surrounding the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, Sarfo argued that recent discussions on the anti-LGBTQ+ legislation have exposed inconsistencies in the positions adopted by some political figures.
“The hypocrisy of politics in this country is alarming,” he stated.
According to Sarfo, the original version of the bill presented to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo contained provisions that many considered excessive.
“The earlier anti-LGBTQ+ bill given to Akufo-Addo to sign was extreme. That was why he took it to court. It did not make logical sense,” he argued.
The filmmaker noted that critics at the time accused the former president of delaying or refusing to assent to the bill. However, he believes current developments suggest that some of those criticisms may have been driven more by politics than principle.
Sarfo also questioned the stance of President John Dramani Mahama and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), arguing that their current approach appears different from positions previously taken on the legislation.
“If Mahama said the law could not be passed because of political interests of the NPP and promised to come and pass it, then it makes him a hypocrite because now drastic amendments have been made to the bill,” he said.
The filmmaker maintained that political leaders must remain consistent on issues of national importance and avoid changing positions based on political convenience.
