“I Pay Fees For People, I Just Don’t Talk About It” – Efya On Ghanaian Musicians Being Stingy

The reaction accusing Ghanaian singers of being stingy and unappreciative of their fans has been denounced by Ghanaian singer Efya.

In a recent interview with Nana Romeo of Accra FM, the singer shared her thoughts on the popular topic that got traction after Davido snatched $5k from a fan.

Efya criticized fans who use social media to only criticize artists while praising Ananzo, the fortunate washing bay attendant, for his hard work.

Efya claims that the majority of Ghana’s best performers earn far less than their Nigerian counterparts.

She clarified that their Nigerian counterparts were earning more money and performing in high-profile concerts. Because of this, Ghanaian artists find it challenging to duplicate their work.

Despite the pay gap, Efya maintained that she was a constant rewarder of her fans’ efforts.

She said,

“Not everyone can donate that amount. I’m sure if there were enough, we would love to do that. We’re not that rich to be replicating gestures. We rub shoulders, but I don’t think, financially, we’re the same. We don’t get paid the same way they get paid. They play bigger shows; that’s why we need to support each other.”

“I do giveaways on Twitter. I can’t tell because it’s private. I also randomly pay school fees for some people. Most of the time, I don’t talk about it.”
