I slept on benches – Edem opens up about chasing Hammer for three years before his big break

Ghanaian rapper and singer Edem has shared details about the difficult journey he went through before gaining recognition in the music industry, revealing how determined he was to work with legendary producer Hammer.
Speaking on Joy Prime’s Prime Time with George Quaye, Edem explained that his desire to work with Hammer began long before his music career officially took shape.
He noted that he strongly believed successful and timeless albums were often built through a strong partnership between one artiste and one producer.
“I was very focused on working with Hammer,” Edem stated. “I noticed that many classic albums came from a close collaboration between an artiste and a producer. So I felt if I found a producer who truly believed in me, we could create something great.”
According to Edem, after completing senior high school, he began searching for Hammer but quickly discovered that reaching him was not simple.
“I started searching for Hammer, but everyone kept telling me they did not really know where to find him,” he said.
Things later changed when an old schoolmate helped him secure Hammer’s phone number. However, Edem admitted he was too nervous to make the call immediately.
“I kept the number for almost two weeks before finally building the confidence to call him,” he revealed.
Eventually, his sister contacted Hammer on his behalf and arranged a meeting at the producer’s studio.
Edem said he arrived at the studio around 2 p.m. and waited until nearly 7:30 p.m. before Hammer finally stepped out.
“He came out and said, ‘I hear you.’ I told him I could rap and that if I got his guidance, I would become better,” Edem recounted.
