We didn’t have money – Kuami Eugene shares childhood struggles

Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has opened up about his childhood in Fadama, revealing the struggles, violence and street lifestyle that shaped his early years.
Speaking in an interview with Headless Youtuber, the award-winning singer said he grew up around “hard guys” and was frequently involved in fights during his younger days.
“I was always in fights all the time because those were my friends,” Kuami Eugene said.
According to him, his family enrolled him in a mission school in hopes that the strict environment would help change his behaviour. However, he admitted he got into a fight with a senior student on his very first day.
The musician also reflected on the sacrifices his mother made to give him a better education despite their financial difficulties.
“We didn’t have money, but my mom did her very best to put me in private schools,” he shared.
Kuami Eugene explained that his life began to change after he gained admission to Idol College. There, he met students from wealthier homes, an experience he said transformed his mindset and taught him discipline, humility and hard work.
“That place humbled me,” he stated. “I never disrespected any human being again after that.”
The singer noted that those life experiences continue to influence how he relates to people today. He added that understanding the sacrifices of his parents motivates him to support others financially whenever he is able to.
“I understood what my parents were going through,” he added.
