President John Dramani Mahama could have been involved in the tragic helicopter crash near Obuasi on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) crashed at the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi South District in the Ashanti Region.
The crash took the lives of the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane-Boamah, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Murtala Mohammed, and six others.
Information gathered by YEN.com.gh suggests that President Mahama was supposed to be on the crashed aircraft but cancelled last minute.
Mahama was billed to attend the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in Obuasi.

According to Citi FM’s Ashanti Regional correspondent, guests at the event were informed that the president could not make it and had delegated Dr Omane-Boamah in his stead.
A video from the event grounds, which has emerged, showed Mahama’s photo on the banner behind the dignitaries.
In the video, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, announced that he had to leave the programme abruptly to attend to the helicopter crash.
