“Afrobeats Includes Every Style, Every Beat, Culture And Genre” – Stonebwoy
Ghanaian broadcaster, Ebenezer Donkoh, better known as NYDJ, replying to a video of Sarkodie and Stonebwoy talking about Afrobeats in France, said he raised concern some few days ago about how West Africans now describe every song as Afrobeats.
He wrote;
A few days ago, I raised a concern about the West describing every song from Africa as Afrobeats. @Sarkodie and @stonebwoy were asked the same question during an interview on @France24_en yesterday.
However, dancehall great, Livingstone Etse Satekla came to his rescue to explain things to him and he said:
No matter what,The west will always control and set the Global standards of creatives and creative materials from Africa to the world and however it will be mostly beneficial to them.. eg. All the topmost names in Africa are signed to western labels.. đ
The broadcaster was not satisfied and wrote:
Music from the continent is well sought for now and if we don't get it right from the onset, nothing will change. The Afrobeats US Chart and UK Afrobeats Chart are all done in partnership with Afronation who should know better and not corroborate boxing every music from Africa.
And Stonebwoy finally said:
I think my points touched on the existence of many more styles of music from africa not to only curate sounds from one popular style that fits a certain criteria from certain platforms to represent the whole.. AFROBEATS has to be well defined. For me it includes Every Style, Beats, culture, Genre language etc. that finds its roots in anyway from AFRICA I think African artiste must cease every opp. To tell what style/genre they represent.. #AFRODANCEHALL Mi Seh!!
