Richie Graham Poulton, CNZM, FRSNZ, was a psychologist from New Zealand who served as director of the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Research Unit at the University of Otago, which conducts the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study (also known as the Dunedin Study) from 1962 until his death on September 29, 2023. Richie was 60 years old when he died.
Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, Richie Poulton experienced his childhood in Auckland, after his family moved as a result of his father's work. He graduated from the University of Otago in Dunedin and worked as an interviewer for the Dunedin Study and later worked as a clinical psychologist in South London and Sydney before obtaining his Ph.D. in 1995. Poulton worked at Long Bay Jail, treating people at risk of suicide, and later became the director of the Dunedin Study. Poulton was appointed to a personal chair in the School of Medicine in 2006.
