Birds and the forest became my only friends growing up – Enam

Ghanaian singer Enam has shared how her childhood in nature shaped her music career.
Speaking to Kafui Dey, monitored by Dklassgh.Com, she said her connection to music started long before she entered the studio.
Enam recalled growing up in the Volta Region, where she spent most of her time alone in the forest because she had very few friends.
“The only friends I had was the forest and the birds,” she said.
She explained that many parents kept their children away from her because she was born with 12 toes, which made people treat her as different.
“Obviously nobody wants their child to play with me,” she said.
According to the singer, she became deeply connected to nature and started learning bird sounds from an early age. She paid attention to different calls and the times they appeared in the forest.
“I knew their sounds from the mild ones to the wild ones,” she explained.
Enam said those experiences influenced her voice and helped shape her sound as an artist.
“Nature gave me my sound trainers. Those were the birds,” she said. “They were my voice coaches.”
She also shared an emotional moment when she returned to her hometown and found many of the trees she grew up around had been cut down for development.
“When I saw it, my heart was broken,” she added.
